Access Control and Facilities Management

Access control is all about keeping unwanted people out of your buildings. Some Facilities Management systems also have an access control component. With CEinside® you can add photo image capture, card design and printing to your Access Control application. Also, CEinside® has been tested with the latest peripherals to ensure that you don’t need to waste valuable time testing third party products.

If you want to implement a decentralized access control system that doesn’t require a central database to verify access information, you can use CEinside® to capture and store a person’s biometric data on chip imbedded in the card. A biometric reader could be placed at each door you wish to secure and when a card holder approaches the door they will be asked to verify their identity. The biometry on the card is then compared against the person trying to enter the door. If there is a match the person gets through.

If you are working on a new web-based solution, CEinside® components can be imbedded in your web pages to provide capture, card design and card viewing and printing.

Enterprise Remote Enrollment

Large organizations with many branch offices or a mobile workforce may find it more cost effective to build a custom web application to capture employee photographs and store them in central security database instead of placing standalone ID systems in each branch office. This approach may be more cost-effective and ensures that all enterprise ID information is controlled in a central location. With the CE-Capture and CE-Image capture controls you can imbed functionality in a web page to capture images from a variety of imaging devices including signature pads, cameras and fingerprint scanners at the branch office and store them on a central server. Then, use CE print manager to extract this employee images from the database based on the template designed using the CE-Designer component and print them on virtually any card printer. If your branch offices want to print locally, but control the data in the central database you could use the toolkit’s CE print manager to control to view and print cards locally.

National Identification Systems

Building a National ID system is no trivial task. It can take months, even years to develop a comprehensive solution that securely issues IDs that you can trust. CEinside’s components can help you cut months off your application development and test time. The key to securely issuing IDs starts with a sound enrollment process to verify who is being issued an ID. CEinside’s CE-Biometrics components can be used to capture a fingerprint for an individual and search against a criminal database to verify the individual. An image could then captured and checked against a “watch list” using the CEinside® Identix plug in. You could also use the Identix software recognition to detect people with duplicate cards. What’s nice about the CEinside ®biometric solution is that you can develop your code once for a single type of biometric and substitute it later with a different type of biometric from a different vendor.

With CE-Designer you can create highly secure cards with visible or invisible security features such as IR bar codes, print particular text or store biometrics in a smart chip or 1D bar code. When combined with ExchangeIt’ IDX printers you can even design cards that have hidden security features which are only readable with a special reader. We can even develop a custom plug in to read from that reader to ensure your security system cannot be compromised. If your National ID card includes a smart chip, we can use CEinside’s encoding framework and build you a custom encoder plug in to ensure that a person’ identity is stored securely on a smart chip.

Passport and Visa Issuance Systems

Developing a Passport and/or Visa Issuance systems will use many of the same components as a National ID system. The CE-Designer is also flexible enough to create passport size layout or visa stickers which can be printed with the CE print manager components.

Transit Systems

Whether you are building a transit system for bus, tramway, train, taxi or parking lot, CEinside® can help streamline your development time significantly. With CEinside’s encoder framework we can build a plug in to encode a single card that works in multiple readers. For example, a city may be using a card with a Magstripe while the light rail system uses a prepaid smart card which can be recharged in city wide vending machine. With CEinside®, we can dev lop virtually any type of encoded or pre-encoded card - all inline with the print process. If we don’t support the reader we can build you a custom plug in encoder that works with your preferred printer and encoding system. ExchangeIt has extensive experience developing e-purse applications, multi-application smart chips and hybrid multi-purpose cards and we even offer high resolution printers with built in encoders with over-lamination to ensure your cards are secure, stands the test of time, and works across any reader. With CEinside’s plug in architecture we can develop direct interfaces to existing cameras to ensure that new transit users are enrolled quickly and with an image they like. You will find that all of the CEinside components can be imbedded directly into an existing transit application seamlessly so that all billing and payment can be processed through a single user web or client/server interface. You can even use CEinside biometric searching to check for duplicate records in the database and to prevent fraud or rider card swapping.

Voters’ Registration Systems

Ensuring that a person doesn’t vote twice is a difficult problem to solve. With CEinside’s Biometric components, you can build a biometric based enrollment application using fingerprints or iris scan to ensure each person is uniquely identified before they vote. Their biometric could be stored on the card in a smart chip or in a 2D bar code. When they show up to vote, their biometric is read from the bar code or smart chip on the card and compared against their actual biometric generated by a local reader. If there is a match, the person is allowed to vote.

Student Information Systems

Large colleges and universities issue ID cards to students to provide access to facilities, verify enrollment in courses, and track meal plans. With CEinside, components can be imbedded in the Student Information System to collect student images, design card layouts and cards can be printed and encoded on the spot during the registration process. The student card could contain a simple bar code that is scanned and verified against a central student database or as complex as a single, multi-application smart chip card that provides facilities access, meal cash payment and transit access. CEinside’s encoder framework gives you the flexibility to develop the application you need.

Time and Attendance Systems

Time and attendance (TAD) system manufacturers need to ensure that employees don’t impersonate other employees –adding a photo ID and biometric verification functionality to the system will help solve this problem. With CEinside components TAD vendors can add personalized ID to any system in 100 lines of code or less. You can use CE-Image and CE-Capture to grab an employees’ photo during the enrollment process, add card design to your application with CE-Designer, and print and encode cards with CE print manager. If you have a web application you can easily view and print cards from within the application using the CE print manager component. If you want to verify people at check-in points to confirm they are who they say they are, you can use CE-Biometrics components to capture a fingerprint of the person during the enrollment process, encode it on the ID card and verify the person at a check-in point by having them place their fingerprint on the reader and checking that fingerprint against the minutia stored on the card. If there is a match they are a valid employee.

Human Resources Systems

Human Resources often have the first contact with the new employee. With CEinside, you can add photo image capture, card design and printing to your HR application. This will allow you sell more seats of your HR application into the security department, and make it easier for your customers to manage and deploy their ID badging application.

Drivers License Systems

A driver’s license system often involves custom workflow to ensure an ID is issued to the proper person. CEinside’s components can be seamlessly integrated with your issuance process to provide a secure and reliable Driver’s license card production system. Furthermore, CEinside’s open architecture and various data connection modes makes it easy to integrate with legacy data system where driver information is stored. And if you have special cameras, we can create direct interface plug-ins so they can be controlled directly from the CE-Capture screen. You can even build a plug in to manipulate images to find the best face shot or centre a person on the screen to ensure speedy enrollment. With CEinside facial recognition plug in from Identix, you can check for people with the same picture but have two different names on the card to keep your database clean and free from fraud.

Entry/Exit Systems

Combined with your CEinside-based national ID, passport or visa issuance system you can provide a highly secure entry/exit system to verify people arriving at your facility/country or leaving. You can use CEinside biometrics to verify a person and CEinside imaging components to view images of people arriving at your checkpoints.
